And that’s exactly what happened in May 2024 when my dad suggested we go to the Adobe Create Now event in Manchester. I wasn’t sure at first. New space, new people, stepping into something bigger than what I’m used to — it felt a little out of my comfort zone.

But I’m so glad I said yes.

We hopped on a train from Macclesfield, just 40 minutes into Manchester, and arrived at The Platform at Freight Island — a space I’d never been to before, but one I won’t forget. It was buzzing. Creative people everywhere, screens glowing, music playing, and that unmistakable hum of excitement that happens when people who love making things come together.

The evening was hosted by Adobe — filled with tips, tools, demos and ideas for creators. I’m not just a photographer — I’m also studying graphic design — so being in a room where photography, design, and digital creativity all collided was completely up my street. But one moment stood out more than any other.

Kladi Vergine (@kladiver) took the stage — and I was instantly hooked. The way she explained Illustrator, Adobe Express, and the creative process was like unlocking doors I didn’t even know were there. I was scribbling mental notes the whole time. For that hour, I was just... silent. Which, if you know me, is quite rare!

After her talk, my dad nudged me (again) and said, Go on, speak to her. I did. And she was amazing. So kind, so genuine — and really took the time to chat. We talked about creativity, photography, and what it’s like starting out. She even said Adobe are always looking for freelance photographers and told me to stay in touch. I think my eyes nearly popped out of my head. That one moment just lit something up in me.

We couldn't stay for the wine or beer (well, I couldn’t — Dad did have one!), but I didn’t need a drink to feel the buzz. On the train home I couldn’t stop talking — Did you see that? Did you hear what she said? Honestly, the whole evening just left me feeling so inspired and excited about where things could go.

I’ve added a few photos from the night below. If you ever get the chance to go to an Adobe Create Now event — take it. You never know who you’ll meet or how it might spark something new.

Thanks again to Kladi and Adobe — and to Dad for giving me the nudge I didn’t know I needed.
